Anthony Weiner's mayoralty race

Two years ago, Anthony Weiner made his way into the public eyes when he tweeted himself a photo of a man’s bulging underpants. Now, he gets media attention once again after considering getting into the race as New York City’s mayor. Weiner’s plan of jumping into the mayoralty race may be as soon as next week, Daily News reports. According to Politico, Danny Kedem will lead Weiner’s campaign. Kedem worked with Mark Murphy last year in his race to congress.

Mayor Bloomberg’s former adviser William Cunningham said, “People know who he is. But he has several operation problems.” On the other hand, realizing that he would be an underdog in the race, Weiner asked people to give him another chance. Weiner said, “I do recognize, to some degree, it’s now or maybe never for me.”

Despite the belief of the many political analysts that it would be a tough road, they still consider some of Weiner’s assets. Weiner’s political skill and rich resource of funds for the campaign will help him in his political venture. Maurice Carroll, Quinnipiac University’s polling institute director affirmed that, “He’d be a real candidate. His pulses are known. His minuses are known.” The problem here lies in how his credibility is perceived by his constituents. George Arzt, political consultant of New York Democratic said, "People will say, 'Why should we trust him again? He lied to us before — he'll lie to us again.'”

Moreover, another problem arises as Weiner’s colleagues in his previous campaign have distanced themselves from him after the sexting scandal, while others are now working elsewhere. New York Post also reported that Weiner will not receive Bill and Hillary Clinton’s endorsement to be the next mayor of New York City. Weiner previously had a close and supportive relationship with the Clintons. Huma Abedin even shared that after that controversial resignation of Weiner because of the indecent tweets, she earned unconditional support from Hillary Clinton, whom she worked with as her chief of staff and top aide. But Weiner’s scandal brings back Bill Clinton’s sexcapades in the past, and that it affects Hillary’s hopes for 2016.

According to the USA Today, the poll conducted by Quinnipiac University recently showed Weiner with 15% following Christine Quinn with 28%.
